Levers

Levers are one of the simplest machines ever made, they were also said to be the first machine ever made by humans. The inventor of the lever is Archimedes. It was first created around 260 bc. Archimedes also created the water screw. Levers help us make work easier by helping us lift heavy objects. They make work easier by changing the direction of force.

While opening a bucket of paint a screw driver can be used as a class one lever. The extra distance allows you to use less force when opening the bucket. The lid is the load the edge of the can is a fulcrum and the handle is the force.
Levers were made millions of years ago. Levers were originally made from ropes and two wooden poles. Levers have improved a lot from when they were invented millions of years ago. Two examples of modern day levers are tweezers (3rd class) and a scale (1st class).

Levers make work easier like any other simple machine. Levers have 3 different classes. 1st class, 2nd class, and 3rd class. In class one, the fulcrum is between the force and load. In class two, the load is between the fulcrum and the force. In class three, the force is between the load and the fulcrum.

For example on a wheel barrel is a class two lever the wheel is the fulcrum , the
bucket is the load, and the handle is the force.

A fishing rod is a class 3 lever because the force is in between the fulcrum and the load. Your hands are the force the fish is the load and the end of the rod is the fulcrum.
